For the past few months, I’ve had the honor of leading Yoga Nidra sessions for Army and Marine Veterans.
Now, of course, I love all my students, but this group is quite special and dear to my heart.
I love seeing them come into the room, excited to try things out, to lie down on their mats, and to soak in the practice.
If I had to guess, I’d say most of them have never even tried yoga, let alone Yoga Nidra, which is far less common here in the Western part of the world.
You see, one of my favorite things about leading Yoga Nidra is seeing the reaction people have at the end of the practice. You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve heard people say…
“I feel like I hopped on a plane and went somewhere.”
“I almost feel like I’m paralyzed.”
But my favorite one, by far, came from one of the Veterans in this group:
“That was yoga?”
“Yep, that’s yoga.” I replied without going deep into “what yoga is or isn’t” as he was heading out for his next scheduled training.
But it got me thinking.
If yoga is the experience of oneness, then I’d say Yoga Nidra is the one thing that has gotten me there the fastest. Not that I’m rushing or anything, but it’s just that powerful.
So here’s the thing…
If I could offer you just ONE tool that would help you deal with anything you may be going through right now, whether chronic anxiety, stress, depression, insomnia, burnout, grief, a break-up, overwhelm, anything…
…it would be Yoga Nidra.
Why?
Because it’s that powerful.
For those of you that aren’t familiar, Yoga Nidra is a meditation practiced lying down.
It includes various techniques such as mindfulness, body scanning, breath awareness, visualization, and intention setting, all to induce deep relaxation that allows us to tap into the unconscious and subconscious levels of our minds.
It’s one of my favorite practices to lead and the topic of my very first online offering.
And yes! Today I’m going to share a full Yoga Nidra meditation practice with you.
This full meditation is designed to balance your Nervous System, regulate stress and anxiety, and help you create a sustainable, at-home self-care practice.
