The wellness industry has turned the concept of detoxification into something that perhaps it is not. It seems like these days detox programs are more about weight loss schemes and quick fixes that lead to little or nowhere. So, before we discuss what the yoga class is about, let’s first take a moment and talk about what detox actually means.
In simple terms, detox is the process of removing toxic (stuff) from the physical body. Under normal conditions, detoxification happens automatically through built in mechanisms and mainly via the liver. Toxic waste is then eliminated from our bodies via different channels (solid waste, sweat, urine).
Under certain circumstances such as lack of movement and over consumption of toxins (alcohol, process foods, etc.), this normal elimination process may become delayed (or backed up). Um, did someone say holidays?

Certain practices in yoga such Kriya techniques, twists, inversions, restorative poses, and dynamic, sweat-inducing movement may facilitate the elimination process and get things running. Yes, weight loss may happen as a side effect form detoxification but it is actually not the ultimate purpose.
This full 50-minute Vinyasa flow class contains all of the above: Kriya, twists, dynamic movement, light inversions, and restorative yoga to induce digestion and a detox experience.
